William Bosch is a partner in the Washington office of Steptoe & Johnson LLP, where he is a member of the Litigation, Business Solutions, and International Departments and the Intellectual Property group.  Mr. Bosch concentrates his practice on complex litigation, with a particular emphasis on issues involving commercial disputes and intellectual property.

Mr. Bosch has successfully litigated cases on behalf of his clients in state and federal courts throughout the country, both at the trial and appellate levels, and also has handled numerous matters through alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration.  Notably, Mr. Bosch was trial counsel in the landmark Woodley Road case that resulted in a multi-million dollar jury verdict against a major hotel management company on behalf of the hotel owner.  Notable arbitrations include the enforcement of contractual agreements on behalf of an international trade show association and the valuation of a domestic operating affiliate of a London-based multinational corporation.

Given his background handling commercial and intellectual property disputes, the issues Mr. Bosch regularly handles are many and varied, and often involve allegations of breach of contract, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, civil RICO, IP infringement (patent, copyright, and trademark), trade secret misappropriation, false advertising, or unfair competition.  His experience in these varied substantive areas lends itself to formulating creative and effective dispute resolution strategies for a broad array of commercial concerns, including property owners, on-line marketplaces, financial services companies, high-tech and general research, development and manufacturing outfits, and consumer products companies.  For example, Mr. Bosch represented one of the most widely recognized e-commerce companies in its worldwide trademark enforcement efforts, and developed and implemented a risk avoidance strategy in the context of willful patent infringement claims on behalf of a medical device manufacturer.

A substantial part of Mr. Bosch’s practice involves advising hotel owners and their asset managers, which includes evaluating and, as appropriate, litigating disputes with joint venture participants, management companies, franchisors, tenants, lenders or vendors. He devotes considerable time to counseling clients involved in the hotel and hospitality industry on a broad range of issues, including the negotiation and enforcement of management contracts and franchise agreements, intellectual property matters, debt subordination and loan workout issues, and asset management.
